people have been doing this on the Seacliff bridge, south coast NSW for ages too.

I love the fact this couple went to the effort of carving their names into the padlock. That’s a lotta love!

There are massive, MASSIVE structures in Japan covered in these groovy padlocks. In the mountains outside a few suburbs there are gigantic steel TV towers, security-coated in a thick steel mesh kind of like chicken wire.
It’s local high-school sweethearts’ tradition to climb up the hills, make out, and then write their names on a padlock and snap it into place. The walls are covered with them, all sizes, all shapes. It’s pretty impressive :-)
